Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine (A&E)

We're looking for dedicated Specialty Doctors to join our friendly and growing Emergency Department team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. You'll work at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Main duties of the job
* Provide clinical services to patients at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and GPs, and attend multi-disciplinary meetings to provide high quality clinical care.
* Support the Emergency department and acute medicine to ensure patients receive timely care and flow through the hospital efficiently.
* Offer consultation and advice to clinical colleagues across the Trust and Primary Care.
* Attend cross-county and cross-site meetings to collaborate with other teams and contribute to high-quality service delivery.
* Work alongside colleagues to help achieve the Trust's goals and meet the department's objectives.
* Join the middle-grade rota to provide emergency and urgent care outside normal working hours, ensuring duties are shared equally.
* Be ready to attend the hospital when needed for patient reviews during non-resident on-call shifts.
* Provide care for minor injuries and emergencies, as well as general ED clinical work.
* Support the Consultant team with daily patient reviews in the Clinical Decision Unit and ED review clinics.
* Help with teaching VTS trainees, FY2s, and middle-grade doctors. Participate in training programs for Regional SAS Grade and Specialist Registrars.
* Collaborate with the clinical governance lead to help develop the ED service and ensure we meet national targets.

DBS Checks and Costs
Applicants offered posts requiring a DBS check will have the cost deducted from their salary at the current rate.
Job responsibilities
The post-holder will be expected to provide clinical services in emergency medicine to patients of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to GPs, attending multidisciplinary meetings to deliver high-quality care.
They will support the ED and acute medicine teams to ensure timely patient care and flow, offer consultation and advice across the Trust and Primary Care, and participate in cross-site meetings.
The role includes providing definitive care for minor injuries and emergencies, supporting daily reviews of ED patients, and participating in teaching and training programs.
The post-holder will work with the clinical governance lead to develop the ED service and meet national standards.
Person Specification
Management and Administrative Experience
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
* Experience of audit management and clinical audit
* Use of evidence-based practice to support decision-making
Research Experience
* Ability to apply research outcomes clinically
* Awareness of current developments in the specialty
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals in the last 5 years
* Experience of original research
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
* MBBS or equivalent
* At least ALS and commitment to complete APLS/EPALS and ATLS/ETC
* Instructor status in ALS, ATLS/ETC, APLS/EPLS/EPALS
Teaching Experience
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing, and other staff
* Experience teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
* Supervision of postgraduate research
Experience
* At least four years postgraduate training, with two in relevant specialty training or equivalent experience
* Minimum two years EM experience post-qualification
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions in emergency and elective cases
* Ability to lead resuscitation or trauma teams
* MRCEM or equivalent
