Position Details
The post is for twelve months, with appraisal/mid‑point review. Unfortunately we cannot consider applications from those who wish to take a shorter post.
Applications are encouraged for this 12‑month role, due to commence its eighth year in July / August 2024. This role provides a unique opportunity for those who wish to develop and utilise skills in medical education while maintaining a hands‑on clinical role. Previous postholders have varied in their levels of experience but this role would suit a motivated candidate who has completed (or is due to complete) foundation training and are considering (or have completed) Core Medical Training.
Responsibilities
* Develop, coordinate and deliver medical student education, mainly in medicine for older people. The role includes using and developing simulation skills in Geriatric Medicine or other areas as agreed with the candidate. It also involves face‑to‑face teaching including supervising case discussions, completing assessments, seminar teaching and leading group work. The successful applicant will liaise between clinicians and university staff to ensure an effective timetable for the year 4 students in the Ageing and Complex Medicine block.
* Provide clinical service work and training in General/Geriatric Medicine. This is predominantly ward‑based and the successful applicant will be a full member of the multidisciplinary team with regular consultant‑led supervision.
* Prepare a job plan that includes both an educational and a clinical component.
Qualifications and Experience
The clinical level is expected to have completed (or be due to complete by the time of commencing the post) Foundation Training and be at Core Medical (ST1‑2) level or equivalent, although this role is not recognised as an official training post by the JRCPTB or Royal College of Physicians.
The candidate may wish to obtain educational qualifications of an appropriate level and CPD in the field of medical education. Previous candidates have completed postgraduate qualifications in medical education such as the PGCert in Medical Education.
Disability Confident
A Disability Confident employer will generally offer an interview to any applicant that declares they have a disability and meets the minimum criteria for the job as defined by the employer. This policy applies even in high‑volume, seasonal and high‑peak recruitment situations.
