Overview
Youth Justice Project Manager and Course Tutor role at Step Together Volunteering. This position is remote in description but based in Bristol and surrounding areas. The post is funded for 14 hours a week across 2 days (Mon–Fri, fixed days negotiable). Some flexibility is required to meet project needs.
Step Together Volunteering partners with Avon & Somerset Police's Deferred Prosecution Service and RISE Mutual to support young men (aged 18–24) at risk of offending. The organisation aims to expand its Bristol-based support and to deliver a bespoke six-week training programme, "For My Future".
Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver the virtual course on Teams from home, with some in-person 1:1 delivery when necessary. Travel across the Avon & Somerset Police Force area may be required.
* Deliver the "For My Future" course to small groups of young men at risk of offending or with initial contact with the Police/Criminal Justice System; form single-sex cohorts and manage group dynamics and risk factors.
* Conduct initial 1:1s with each participant to assess risks, needs and suitability, adapting the course for learners with learning or communication difficulties, neurodiverse conditions, social anxiety or challenging behaviours.
* Provide ongoing 1:1 support between group sessions to maintain motivation and address barriers while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Maintain detailed case records of attendance, engagement and outcomes, using assessment tools provided by the programme (training will be provided).
* Keep client, referrer and charity placement records in accordance with policy and GDPR; use the bespoke case management system to capture information.
* Signpost to external sources of help and safeguard concerns in line with the Charity’s Safeguarding Policy.
* Refer eligible participants for 1:1 support with Step Together colleagues when appropriate.
* Advise and refer to external partners for training, employment support and education opportunities; develop and sustain partnerships with referrers and agencies.
* Attend meetings with project partners as needed and work with the wider Young People team in Bristol to promote services and identify funding opportunities.
* Represent the charity at youth justice events and deliver talks or presentations when required.
* Provide monthly reporting data and feedback to the Head of Operations and Central Team to evidence impact to funders and supporters; track client progress and outcomes.
* Adhere to safeguarding policies, uphold professional boundaries, and participate in reflective practice and training as required.
Qualifications and skills
* Practical experience working with young people at risk of offending or with Police/justice system contact.
* Knowledge of early intervention programmes and collaboration with police, probation and youth offending teams.
* Ability to build trust, confidence and self-esteem in young people and manage group dynamics in small groups.
* Confident communication and listening skills; able to engage diverse young people in a supportive manner.
* Understanding of safeguarding risks and practices relating to young people in the criminal justice system.
* Strong planning, presentation and time-management skills; capable of coordinating 1:1 and group work.
* Self-motivated, patient, persistent, disciplined and resilient.
* Proficient with IT systems including case management systems and MS Office; able to conduct online research.
* Car driver/owner (business mileage insured; mileage paid at HMRC rate).
* Experience with young people aged 16–25 with complex issues (e.g., drugs misuse, abuse, care leavers, young carers, justice system contact).
* Understanding of NEET, youth support and social care networks/pathways.
* Experience in the charity sector or community organizations (social care, probation services, youth support, local authorities).
* Understanding of LGBT+, BAME, diversity, inclusion, disabilities and equal opportunities.
* Familiarity with health and safety practices and First Aid training.
* Experience creating and delivering PowerPoint presentations and talks.
