We're looking for a hands-on Head of DevOps to join us at a pivotal moment. This is your chance to take ownership of our infrastructure, shape our DevOps strategy, and ultimately grow a high-performing team around you. The Role This is a greenfield opportunity to define and drive DevOps best practice from the inside. You'll be the first DevOps hire in the business - rolling up your sleeves to modernise our infrastructure, streamline deployments, improve observability, and lay the technical foundations for scalability and security. We're AWS-first, using Terraform for infrastructure as code, and containerised workloads on ECS. You'll be leading our CI/CD evolution, enhancing system reliability, and designing robust pipelines, while supporting development and product teams to deliver with confidence. Key Responsibilities Own and evolve our AWS-based infrastructure with Terraform Improve and manage CI/CD pipelines (we use GoCD, with pipeline as code, Bash/Shell scripting) Optimise networking infrastructure including DNS, VPC peering, and site-to-site VPNs Manage and support containerised workloads in Docker and AWS ECS Oversee logging and observability tools including the ELK Stack (ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana) and Grafana Collaborate with engineering to embed DevOps practices in the SDLC Lead on infrastructure security and availability Shape the future DevOps roadmap and hire your team as we grow What We're Looking For Deep, hands-on DevOps experience - ideally in a scale-up or agile environment Strong AWS knowledge, including Terraform, ECS, networking (VPC, DNS, VPNs) Proficiency in CI/CD tooling, especially pipeline automation (GoCD, Bash/Shell) Experience with observability stacks like ELK and Grafana Comfortable being the first DevOps hire and working autonomously Strategic thinker who can balance day-to-day delivery with long-term planning Passion for clean, scalable infrastructure and efficient developer workflows Nice to Have Experience building out DevOps functions from scratch Exposure to regulated environments (financial services, insurance, legal) Knowledge of container orchestration and IaC best practices What's On Offer Salary up to £90,000 depending on experience Autonomy to own and shape DevOps at a business-critical level Clear route to build and lead a DevOps team as we scale Friendly, fast-moving, and mission-driven environment Hybrid working - 1 day per week in our Heald Green office A chance to make a real impact from day one How to Apply If you're a hands-on DevOps leader ready to build something meaningful, we'd love to hear from you.
