W Boyes & Co Ltd is a long-established, family-owned UK value retailer. We operate a fleet of commercial vehicles supplying our retail stores, using tail lift and roll cages.
The Role
We are recruiting a professional and safety-focused HGV Driver (Class 2 – Category C) to carry out multi-drop deliveries to our retail stores. The successful candidate will ensure all operations are conducted in full compliance with UK road transport law and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
* Safely operate a Category C (Class 2) heavy goods vehicle in accordance with the Road Traffic Act 1988 and associated regulations.
* Comply with the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995 and all Operator Licence requirements.
* Adhere strictly to the Drivers' Hours Rules under retained EU Regulation (EC) 561/2006 and the Transport Act 1968, including correct tachograph use.
* Ensure compliance with the Working Time Regulations 1998 (as amended) for mobile workers.
* Conduct daily walkaround vehicle checks in line with DVSA guidance and report defects in accordance with the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986.
* Load and unload goods safely, complying with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
* Ensure vehicle loads are secured in accordance with DVSA Load Security Guidance and relevant legislation.
* Complete delivery documentation accurately and maintain legally compliant tachograph records.
* Represent the company professionally when delivering to stores and interacting with staff.
Essential Requirements
* Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
* Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) under the Vehicle Drivers (Certificates of Professional Competence) Regulations 2007.
* Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
* Good understanding of UK Drivers' Hours and Tachograph Regulations.
* Knowledge of UK road transport legislation and compliance standards.
* Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks safely.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Flexible approach to working hours, including early starts where required.
Desirable
* Previous multi-drop delivery experience within a retail environment.
* Awareness of DVSA enforcement standards and roadside inspection procedures.
* Forklift licence (advantageous but not essential).
