Highways Engineer – Temporary contract 24 months, potential extension or permanent position.
Location: SL1 2EJ, Hybrid 3 days Office based.
Responsibilities
* Produce design documentation for highway and transport projects, including concept, preliminary, and detailed designs (drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications).
* Develop and manage programmes of work for allocated schemes.
* Prepare NEC tender and contract documentation.
* Assist in the preparation of funding and grant applications.
* Support project management and quantity surveying teams in developing cost estimates.
* Mentor and support the development of junior team members.
* Liaise with contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure project requirements are met and expectations are effectively managed.
* Respond to technical enquiries from residents, ward councillors, and stakeholders to support scheme delivery.
Qualifications
* Proficiency in industry‑standard software including Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Keylines, Keysigns, and Vehicle Tracking.
* Experience in designing public transport schemes, cycling, walking, and road safety projects (both minor and major schemes).
* Experience in budget monitoring and financial control.
* Strong knowledge of UK highway design standards, including DMRB, Manual for Streets, and LTN 1/20 (Active Travel Guidance).
