Maintenance Technician Leadman

Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician Leadman is a senior‑level maintenance professional responsible for coordinating daily maintenance activities, providing technical leadership, and performing expert‑level troubleshooting and repair work. This role serves as the primary support to the Maintenance Supervisor by assigning tasks, guiding technicians, and ensuring maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. The Leadman must possess advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, strong communication abilities, and the leadership presence to support a high‑performance maintenance team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Coordination
1. Assign daily tasks to maintenance technicians based on skill level, workload, and production priorities.
2. Provide on‑the‑floor leadership, guidance, and technical support to all maintenance team members.
3. Serve as the primary point of contact for operators, supervisors, and production staff regarding maintenance needs.
4. Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities.
5. Monitor work quality and ensure repairs are completed correctly and safely.
6. Support training and development of Levels I–VII technicians.
Technical Responsibilities
7. Perform expert‑level preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.
8. Lead major repairs, rebuilds, and system overhauls, ensuring equipment is restored to optimal performance.
9. Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues, including failures involving motors, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, sensors, and control devices.
10. Assist electricians with PLC‑related diagnostics, including verifying I/O functionality and supporting program‑related troubleshooting.
11. Conduct precision alignments using advanced tools such as dial indicators, laser alignment systems, and micrometers.
12. Perform calibrations on mechanical and electrical devices such as sensors, scales, temperature controls, and flow systems.
13. Support equipment installations, upgrades, and modifications, ensuring proper integration with mechanical and control systems.
14. Identify root causes of recurring failures and recommend long‑term reliability improvements.
Documentation & Compliance
15. Ensure accurate and timely completion of CMMS work orders, parts usage, and maintenance notes.
16. Verify that technicians follow proper documentation procedures.
17. Enforce safety policies, including lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, and sanitation standards.
18. Participate in safety audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Communication & Collaboration
19. Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and project updates to supervisors and production leadership.
20. Work closely with operators to understand equipment performance issues and prevent downtime.
21. Coordinate with engineering, production, and quality teams on equipment improvements and modifications.
Qualifications
22. High school diploma or GED required.
23. 6+ years of mechanical or industrial maintenance experience required.
24. Demonstrated leadership ability in a maintenance or technical environment.
25. Expert‑level understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical systems.
26. Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
27. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and precision measuring devices.
28. Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and decision‑making skills.
29. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
30. Ability to mentor and train maintenance personnel at all levels.
Certifications & Licenses
31. Forklift Certification (preferred)
32. Lockout/Tagout training (required after hire)

Work Environment
Work is performed in a cold, wet, and noisy industrial processing facility. Exposure to moving machinery, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures is expected.

Schedule & Overtime
Day shift availability as listed; overtime, weekends, and extended hours may be required based on production needs.
