Job Title: Asset Data and Performance Analyst

Location: Falmer/Durrington (Hybrid Working)
Salary: From £35,000 per annum

We’re looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Asset Data Analyst & System Planner to join our Strategic Planning team. If you thrive on solving complex data challenges, love working in Excel, and want to make a real impact on the future of essential infrastructure, this could be your next big move.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys transforming raw data into actionable insights, developing robust models in Excel, and contributing to the formulation of long-term investment strategies that support sustainable water and wastewater services.

Please note: Internally, this role is titled Asset Planner.

What you’ll be doing

1. Use your advanced Excel skills to analyse large datasets, build models, and visualise trends that inform our 25-year asset strategy.
2. Translate long-term risks and infrastructure needs into a deliverable, cost-effective investment programme.
3. Apply risk-based, TOTEX (total expenditure) planning to ensure value for money and long-term service resilience.
4. Collaborate across departments to align operational, maintenance, and capital investment plans.
5. Represent Asset Strategy & Planning in key meetings and workshops, clearly communicating data insights and strategic priorities.
6. Help us stay agile by building flexible plans that can adapt to environmental, economic, and operational change.

What we’re looking for

7. Proven experience in data analysis, ideally within asset management, infrastructure planning, or a regulated environment.
8. Expert-level Excel skills – including pivot tables, advanced formulas, data modelling, and ideally VBA or Power Query.
9. Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex datasets and present insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
10. Comfortable working across teams, facilitating workshops, and aligning multiple workstreams.
11. Experience in utilities, engineering, or infrastructure is a bonus, but not essential.
12. Experience with coding is a bonus, but not essential.

What’s in it for you?

13. Hybrid working between our Falmer/Durrington office and home
14. Salary from £35,000 depending on experience
15. 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
16. Up to 11% employer pension contribution
17. Company and performance-related bonus
18. Life assurance (4x salary)
19. Health Cash Plan & Digital GP service
20. Salary sacrifice electric car scheme (after 6 months)
21. Cycle to work scheme
22. Two paid volunteering days per year
23. Study support for job-related qualifications
24. Discounts with over 800 retailers

Ready to turn data into impact?

Join us in shaping the future of water and wastewater infrastructure. Apply now and bring your Excel expertise to a role where your insights will drive real-world change.

Does this opportunity excite you but you’re not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role? Or are you concerned that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t possible given your personal circumstances? Whilst we can’t accommodate every flexible working request, we’ll try to find a practical solution. So why not engage with us and find out more about this role?

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, because delivering water for life is our core purpose. To achieve this, we need 24/7 support in place to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently. All our employees understand the importance of out-of-hours incident support – because when problems appear, fixing them is our top priority. That’s why our people join together and support when and however needed to make sure our customers get the service they deserve. Joining the Southern Water family means you’ll become part of our incident support team. During your interview, your manager will speak to you about any incident support rotas that apply to your position.

Privacy Statement:

Please note: If you are an existing Southern Water employee, you will need to confirm within your application that your Manager is aware of your application.

All applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK. You will need to provide evidence of eligibility (e.g. a passport or long birth certificate and proof of NI) and current proof of address (dated within the last 3 months), will be required as part of the recruitment process. If you do not meet these criteria, your application will not be considered.
