Engineering Operations Technician, InfraOps Cluster Operations

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services designs, plans, delivers, and operates worldwide AWS infrastructure, supporting all data centers and equipment. This role is an on‑site maintenance technician and operator at an AWS data centre.
Responsibilities
* Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment (stand‑by diesel generators, switchboards/switch‑gears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, building automation systems).
* Troubleshoot facility and rack‑level events within internal SLAs.
* Perform limited maintenance tasks: filter changes, HVAC preventive maintenance, rack power installs, rack PDU and rack ATS replacements.
* Provide support to Data Centre Operations technicians.
* Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures.
* Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
* Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
* Utilize the internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare‑part inventory.
* Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
* Respond to off‑hour emergency calls per on‑call rotation for any of the region’s sites.
* Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
Basic Qualifications
* Ability to work in cramped and/or elevated locations with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Technical training (military or trade school) or relevant experience.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and web‑based operational tools.
* Familiar with BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending.
* Proficiency with maintenance management software.
* Commutable to the Thames Valley Region.
* Ability to relocate for up to 1 year for specialised training for a deployment location in a new data centre region.
* UK national, able to obtain and maintain a UK Government Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
* 4+ years of Data Centre Engineering experience.
* Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
* Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout, and low‑voltage (copper/fibre) cabling.
* Travel between sites/locations during the workday may occur.
* Valid driver’s license and own vehicle required; must pass a driving record check to operate company vehicles.
