The Client: An established regional main contractor, one of the notable names in the local market, with strong partnerships across the education, public, commercial, residential and heritage sectors, this forward-thinking builder are renowned for their delivery of new build and refurbishment works on schemes across the East of England for a range of exciting clients. The Role: Looking to appoint an ambitious, driven individual into the role of Assistant Contracts Surveyor, the business are keen to select a candidate with a background in the industry and provide them with the opportunity to move into the office and begin to build a career overseeing project finances. This could be an individual with a mixture of academic and site-based experience, or from a Management Traineeship with a main contractor. The role will see you support the Directors and Contracts Managers on the financial management of everything from small works to major projects, with values ranging from £50k to £5m. Responsibilities: * Assist with breakdowns of build costs for each stage of work. * Forecast, monitor and maintain cash flow to ensure margins are maintained and projects remain profitable. * Keep on top of variations in work and ensure they are accounted for. * Assist with contractual issues that affect works and negotiate in the best interests of the business where needs arise. * Procurement and appointment of sub-contractors. including documentation and compliance in line with project programme. * Effective communication across all levels with clients, suppliers, external consultants and colleagues through to senior management. Requirements: * Previous experience within the industry is desirable, ideally from a main contracting environment * A determined, strong-willed individual who is prepared to challenge themselves as they grow and develop in the role. * A confident attitude with the ability to talk to people at all levels; you will be liaising with everyone from site-based workers through to clients, consultants and architects. * You will be a hard-worker, someone willing to learn and go the extra mile when it comes to your own training and development. Qualifications & Experience * A relevant Construction related Degree or equivalent Higher Education course, ideally Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Construction Management. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications. * You’ll ideally be situated near to the Bury St. Edmunds area and be happy to travel to relevant projects as required.
