Our team develops, maintains, and operates big data platforms for a major customer. These platforms, built on Apache Hadoop components, Elasticsearch, and in-house applications, run on a large remote Linux estate. They support tools for storing, enriching, querying, and visualizing large data volumes. The team adopts a DevOps methodology to respond swiftly to changing requirements and ensure optimal customer service. In this role, you will be a key driver in enhancing our customer's cyber capabilities, serving as a technical expert across various activities, with opportunities to develop diverse skills.
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance. An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable while you hold this clearance and work in a role requiring it. The role is based in London, onsite five days a week, Monday to Friday, between 8 am-6 pm (flexible), totaling 37.5 hours weekly. You must already possess DV UKIC clearance and have lived in the UK for over 10 years to attain this clearance.
What you'll be doing
1. Responding to issues raised via dashboards, user reports, or proactive monitoring routines you develop.
2. Analyzing existing dashboards and creating new ones to monitor systems.
3. Developing critical applications for high-volume, high-velocity data analysis and queries based on user requirements.
4. Optimizing performance of existing code and researching new storage and querying methods.
5. Participating in code reviews and providing constructive feedback.
6. Updating support documentation and training first-line support teams.
Essential Skills
* Programming/scripting, software testing, SDLC, application development, debugging.
* Experience with distributed datasets (HDFS, CEPHFS), query tuning, and performance optimization.
* Elasticsearch configuration, tuning, and data discovery with large datasets.
* Proficiency in Python3 and PySpark, using tools like Jupyter and Visual Studio Code.
* Scala for ad-hoc queries and insights.
* Web UI development using React, NextJS, MUI.
* Knowledge of Ansible and Puppet is advantageous.
* Networking experience, including protocol analysis and Ethernet stacks.
* Ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders.
* Degree qualification or significant technical experience.
