Job Description
A vacancy has arisen for a Licensing Assistant to assist in the administration of the statutory licensing regimes for alcohol, gambling, taxis, and a wide range of other licenses administered by the Council and Licensing Board. The work is interesting and varied, and the post holder will join a busy licensing team.
The main responsibilities of the post include the administration and processing of applications received under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.
The post holder will assist customers applying for the grant or renewal of licenses, process applications in accordance with legal requirements and timescales, and communicate directly with applicants, partner agencies, and objectors.
They will ensure applications are properly remitted to the Licensing Board or Licensing Committee for determination by elected members or passed to senior managers under delegated powers, maintain accurate records, and assist the Senior Officer (Licensing Services) and Licensing Standards Officers as required.
The post holder must be willing to study for a specialist paralegal licensing qualification via distance learning (funded by the Council) and attain this qualification.
Candidates should have experience in administering complex processes, assessing and addressing customer needs, and dealing with demanding customers, along with an understanding of legal concepts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
The successful candidate should be able to manage their own workload and work independently.
