We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Designer Engineer to join a leading overhead crane manufacturer. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering high-quality electrical solutions for bespoke lifting equipment. This role involves producing detailed electrical documentation, supporting project planning, and contributing to innovative engineering projects across various sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Work with customers and internal teams to develop initial electrical concept designs for bespoke crane systems.
Produce electrical schematic diagrams using CAD software.
Create PLC wiring diagrams, I/O schedules, instrument loop diagrams (where required), and panel layouts.
Generate fully populated bills of materials and parts lists based on design schematics.
Place component orders and ensure all delivery requirements are met to support project timelines.
Carry out LV distribution design and cable calculations when needed.
Design machinery safety circuits and complete risk assessments in line with BS EN ISO 13849 / 60261.
Prepare technical documentation and project-related design files.
Support day-to-day job planning and coordination of ongoing engineering activities.
Fault-find on existing systems, with or without drawings.
Provide occasional on-site assistance, which may involve late working, working away, or weekend availability based on project requirements.
Requirements
5+ years of electrical engineering experience (required).
3+ years of system design experience (required).
Strong understanding of electrical drawings, industrial control systems, and automation.
Basic understanding of PLC, HMI, and SCADA software (experience advantageous).
Knowledge of industrial networks such as Profibus and Profinet.
Experience with safety system design and programming is highly advantageous.
Familiarity with Siemens PLCs preferred (training provided for other systems).
Ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Able to work under time constraints and manage a varied workload.
Full UK driving licence (required).
Flexibility to work weekends, late shifts, or travel when project deadlines require it.
Hours
Monday Thursday: 8:00am 4:30pm
Friday: 8:00am 2:00pm
Flexibility required. Overtime and weekend work may be needed depending on project demands.
Salary
£35,000 £55,000 per annum (depending on experience).
With potential for higher.
