Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and delivery of a portfolio of complex electrical distribution system projects, dealing with both the commercial and technical issues associated with the project, including interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.
* Lead the development of the Project Engineers and junior members of the team, taking an active and responsible role, supporting the coaching and training needs of Major Projects staff.
* Produce reports and communicate progress, managing projects to time, cost and quality with a focus on safety, to the highest level both within Northern Powergrid and client organisations.
* Ensure all legal and statutory requirements associated with construction works are met. In particular, actions necessary to meet the requirements of the New Road and Streetworks Act, Electricity at Work Act, Construction (Design & Management), Electricity Safety, Quality & Continuity Regulations and Distribution Safety Rules.
* Managing and operating within framework contracts to enable the delivery of complex projects.
* Take a lead role in the development of section level processes and documentation.
* Knowledge of engineering standards, principles and practice in the development and delivery of electrical system distribution infrastructure.
* Knowledge and practical application of safety legislation & procedures, specifically the Health & Safety at Work Act, Electrical at Work Regulations, Electricity Safety, Quality & Continuity Regulations and Construction (Design & Management).
* Experience of the management and administration of engineering and construction contracts associated with complex project works including; substation, civils, overhead line and cable works.
* Ability to project manage high complexity critical infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
* Ability to effectively lead and manage complex multi-disciplinary projects of multiple skill types, including EHV substations
* Knowledge and ability to monitor and maintain project delivery timescales and provide, accurate and timely progress and status reporting against agreed time, cost, quality & safety objectives.
* Able to take ownership for coaching and supporting individuals and groups of colleagues
* Able to mentor & develop team members using their knowledge & experience.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
* Minimum HNC in electrical engineering or equivalent STEM subject
* Knowledge and experience of the electrical systems distribution infrastructure, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects at voltages up to and including 132kV.
* Project governance and control processes, commercial awareness and experience working with engineering and construction contracts.
* Demonstrated ability to drive asset development and delivery plans forward to meet time, cost, quality and safety standards.
* Demonstrated excellent understanding and management of safety critical issues.
* Coaching and supporting individuals and groups of colleagues.
* Mentoring & developing team members using their knowledge & experience.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
* Educated to degree level in a relevant STEM subject
* NEBOSH or equivalent formal qualification in safety management
* Project engineering experience on critical national infrastructure project works including; substations, overhead line, cable systems, battery energy storage systems and generation technologies.
