What's involved with this role: Job Title: SEND Key Worker Ref: Cheshire E 5270165 Pay rate: £19.00 per hour PAYE An Enhanced DBS (Children and Adults Barred Lists check) is required for this role The role: We are seeking a committed and experienced SEND person to conduct statutory assessments and manage Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within the Local Authority. This includes maintaining a caseload, attending annual reviews, and updating plans as necessary. You will liaise with childcare, education, and vocational providers to find suitable placements and provide advice and support to parents and educational settings on SEND Code of Practice procedures and the assessment process to ensure appropriate EHCP provisions. Key responsibilities: Coordinate a person-centred, outcome-focused multi-agency approach for EHCP assessment, planning, and support, involving young people and parents as equal partners Act as key worker for children and young people needing SEND assessments or EHCPs Serve as Named Officer and main contact for settings, schools, colleges, and specialist institutions attended by residents with SEND Attend and chair multi-agency co-production meetings; analyse educational, medical, social care, and psychological reports to make balanced service recommendations Meet with young people and parents and carers to discuss SEND support decisions, including formal mediation; refer to Independent Advice and Support as needed Submit evidence with necessary information and costs to Moderation Panels for decision-making Support the SEND team by advising young people and parents and carers to help them make informed choices on SEND support Represent the Local Authority at mediation and appeals, including First Tier Tribunal (SEN and Disability) Review commissioned provisions to monitor progress and ensure outcomes are met for individual young people Liaise with non-educational agencies to provide appropriate services; advise schools on meeting SEND needs and effective use of funding Ensure resources are allocated, monitored, and reviewed for SEND support and EHCPs, including guidance on personal budgets; monitor data and outcomes for reporting What the client is looking for: Graduate-level or equivalent qualification in relevant fields (e.g. Education, Social Work, Health, Educational Psychology) or NVQ Level 4 Advice & Guidance/ NVQ Level 4 in learning, development and support services for children, young people and those who care for them Extensive experience with children and young people with SEND across early years, schools, colleges, Local Authorities, health, and independent sectors Skilled in engaging families, young people, and multi-agency teams Experienced in statutory assessments (SEND, Child Protection) and monitoring performance against targets Up-to-date knowledge of SEND and familiar with Local Authority statutory SEND requirements and child-centered assessment, planning, and review processes Skilled in analysing quantitative and qualitative data and producing clear reports.
