We require a highly skilled and motivated Automation Project Engineer to join our team as we design and implement a new aseptic filling module, module 2, in our existing Q Block facility at GSK Barnard Castle.

The Automation team is a thriving part of the capital projects team, with a significant portion of the site's capital investment being placed into new technologies. The site is investing heavily in Industry 4.0 state-of-the-art, bespoke equipment to support sustained new product introductions and volume increases.

To meet the growing needs of the site, the automation team is looking for a motivated, qualified engineer to join the Q Block module 2 team. This role would predominantly be site-based and support flexible working policies. We actively support personal development, external training, further education, and professional registration.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

* Managing and coaching the Controls & Automation discipline for the Q Block project team
* Specifications, procurement, installation, acceptance testing (e.g., FAT/SAT), and qualification of automation systems in a licensed GMP commercial plant
* Integration of the new Module 2 Facility into the validated Q Block Module 1 Facility, including creation/changes to digital recipes, PCS7, and MES
* Ensuring compliance with engineering and EHS standards relevant to the service provided
* Engaging with external specialist companies engaged to deliver GMP equipment/services
* Developing and delivering new technology strategies to benefit the new facility design
* Collaborating with site quality and validation personnel to ensure GMP compliance of automation and control systems
* Maintaining regular contact with central groups developing new technologies and standards

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

* A degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Robotics, Electronics and Communications, or similar disciplines
* Automation project engineering experience

Preferred qualifications & skills (not necessary but advantageous):

* Experience managing multi-disciplined engineering/technical staff
* Technical and operational knowledge of automation systems (e.g., Siemens S7, PCS7, WinCC, Keyence, Cognex, SEAVision, ABB, Siemens drives)
* Experience creating digital recipes and MES integration
* Knowledge of data communication protocols (Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Profinet), data transfer, historian, and SQL databases
* Experience in generating and approving testing protocols and technical documentation
* Ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams and P&ID nomenclature
* Knowledge of process and machinery safety standards (UKCA/CE, PUWER, HAZOP, SIL)
* Understanding of OT cybersecurity standards and GMP regulations
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards it
