The role Southern Housing is looking for a Building Safety Pre-Construction Manager to lead the design phase of our building safety projects. This role is pivotal in managing the full pre-construction process, with a particular focus on coordinating and overseeing the work of the design team and other technical specialists. Reporting to the Head of Building Safety Delivery, you will be responsible for commissioning and managing services that identify, programme, and deliver building safety inspections and remedial activity, ensuring alignment with our strategic goal of making our buildings as safe as possible. You will take ownership of the design process from inception through to construction readiness, ensuring that all design outputs meet regulatory requirements and project objectives. You will work closely with a multi discipline team of professionals to resolve design issues, maintain compliance, and ensure that all documentation is prepared and stored in line with Golden Thread principles. Your responsibilities will include arranging and managing surveys and assessments, maintaining accurate data, and coordinating with residents and internal teams. You will also oversee the preparation of construction documents, manage project risks, and ensure that all pre-construction activities are completed on time and within budget. A key part of your role will be to foster collaboration across disciplines, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and that the design process supports safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery. This is a high-impact role that requires excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Some visits to sites and other offices might be needed based on the locations part of the programme's scope. What You'll Need: Previous experience as a Project Manager, Project Engineer, or in pre-construction within commercial construction Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience, and/or membership of a professional body such as RIBA, CIOB, or RICS Strong knowledge of building safety regulations and environmental standards Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including stakeholder engagement The ability to read and assess standards, drawings, specifications, procurement processes, and contracts Highly organised, self-motivated, with meticulous attention to detail In your supporting statement, it is important that you address how you meet each of the above six criteria providing real examples.
