We are pleased to be recruiting to an 8b Principal Psychodynamic psychological therapist post (0.6 wte) to lead the psychodynamic modality within our multi‑modality therapy team in secondary care. The post holder will be an experienced clinician practising psychodynamically with adults with moderate‑severe mood, anxiety and personality disorders. The post holder will have experience of line‑managing and supervising therapists providing psychodynamic psychotherapy, as well as offering consultation and link‑working with colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work alongside another 8b Principal Clinical Psychologist to support the Head of Service, and act as lead for the psychodynamic modality offer within the team. They will hold a caseload of psychodynamic psychotherapy cases, delivering assessment and therapy to the more complex presentations. They will line‑manage and supervise a number of staff within the service and provide professional supervision. The post holder will contribute to service audits and development projects, and consultation within the team and to other professionals.

The successful applicant will work alongside other psychodynamic psychotherapists delivering assessment and therapy. They will also work alongside psychotherapists offering Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Clinical/Counselling Psychologists offering CBT, tf‑CBT, Schema informed therapy and EMDR, as part of this well‑established multi‑modality team. There are line‑management and supervisory responsibilities, as well as link‑working with CMHTs to provide consultation, teaching and co‑working. The team is based in central Croydon (Jeanette Wallace House) and face‑to‑face sessions are provided at this base and at other Croydon sites. Wednesdays are an essential team day. Development opportunities: The Trust provides access to a wide range of CPD opportunities and all staff are encouraged to undertake development opportunities and activities relevant to their post. As a multi‑modality team there are opportunities for learning and development alongside other modalities.
Job responsibilities
* To develop, co‑ordinate and ensure the systematic provision of psychodynamic psychotherapy within a psychological therapy service to adults in secondary care with moderate to severe mood, anxiety and personality disorders and personally provide highly specialist psychodynamic psychotherapy and clinical input.
* To provide highly specialist clinical input in the form of psychodynamic assessment and consultation and to manage a caseload of individual psychodynamic psychotherapy cases.
* To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
* To provide specialist psychodynamic clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a lead specialist in psychodynamic psychotherapy within the team and borough.
* To ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of other psychological practitioners.
* To promote service evaluation, audit, research and policy development.
* To work as an autonomous professional within registration body guidelines (the BPC/UKCP for psychodynamic psychotherapists) and codes of conduct and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service, taking responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.
* To agree outcomes/results with clinical/professional lead and to decide how they are best achieved.
* To support the coordination of staff support within their area, working closely with Corporate Psychology and Psychotherapy to support colleagues and ensure all staff in SLaM have access to evidence‑based support. To participate, as a recipient, in staff support work when appropriate.

* Additional training beyond entry level in specialised area psychodynamic practice

* Certificate/Diploma level psychodynamic/analytic supervision

£72,719 to £83,505 a year inclusive of outer HCAs pro rata.
