Horticultural Operations Manager
My client seeks candidates with proven expertise in the garden centre sector, ideally with hands-on experience managing garden centre operations.
The horticultural operations manager’s role will play a key role in helping our client’s business to continue to grow and succeed.
My client is looking for an ambitious and driven candidate to join their team. Candidates must have full flexibility with hours as weekend working, and early morning starts will be required. Dependent on business needs this role will be working 45/50 hours a week, in busier periods it could be more and in quieter periods less.
The role offers a dynamic pace and broad scope, with active involvement and supervisory responsibilities.
The Horticultural Operations Manager Role
Reporting to the Directors, you will be responsible for:
* Buying plants from nearby growers and also from suppliers in Holland.
* Actively selling plants to the public and trade
* Providing strategic leadership and direction for all horticultural operational activities, including warehousing, distribution, strategy, continuous improvement and projects.
* Overseeing daily warehouse activities including goods in, inventory control, quality control is very important, picking, packing and dispatch.
* Being a responsible key holder, opening and closing the warehouse regularly.
* Reporting on KPIs relating to productivity, cost efficiency and safety.
* Developing and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency.
* Project management, supporting with rolling out new projects across the business. Working closely with the Directors to develop business plans and create long-term company strategy.
* Analysing operational data, keeping up to date with industry trends and changing markets.
* Ensuring health and safety regulations are adhered to at all time.
* Planning marketing activities such as digital strategy, content creation and trade shows.
Candidate Profile
* Have experience in a similar role managing horticultural operations, ideally within a fast-paced high volume garden centre environment.
* Have strong knowledge of plants and garden sundries
* Demonstrate a track record of improving efficiency.
* A commercial mindset, drive and ambition to succeed with full flexibility on working hours over 7 days a week.
* Proven success in scaling operations and leading change.
* Excellent people management
* Digital Strategy and Content Creation experience, using Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
* Experience of working towards and achieving set KPI’s, as well as motivating staff to do so.
* A full UK driving license, ideally clean and a current forklift licence.
* Must be adaptable to work in all areas of the business with a professional but “hands on approach” being able to work in a fast-paced manual environment at times when the business needs.
