Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Blackpool South PCN team. A well‑established PCN team who are passionate about developing and delivering excellent quality local services to meet the needs of their patients.
The PCN staff currently includes Clinical Pharmacists, Mental Health Workers, Social Prescribers, Paramedics, Physiotherapists, Care Coordinators, Nurse Associates and Pharmacist Technicians.
Podiatrist will be the first point of contact for patients presenting with foot and ankle problems in primary care. The post holder will provide expert assessment, diagnosis, advice, and management without the need for a GP referral, supporting earlier intervention, reducing unnecessary GP appointments, and improving patient access to specialist care.
Main Duties of the job
* Work across four GP practices within Blackpool South PCN in line with service need.
* Support GP practices by reducing podiatry‑related workload and improving patient flow.
* Contribute to the development of PCN podiatry pathways and referral processes.
* Support the PCN in meeting DES and access objectives.
* Work closely with GPs, practice nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and other PCN roles.
* Support the PCN in meeting DES and access objectives.
* Participate in MDT discussions and case reviews as appropriate.

Blackpool South PCN is made up of four GP Practices with a weighted list size of 37,500 spread across a fairly compact urban area.
The PCN formed in 2019 with no changes to its original members to date.

Job responsibilities
* Act as a first contact clinician for patients with foot and ankle conditions, seeing patients without prior GP assessment.
* utilise and provide guidance to patients on equipment such as surgical instruments, dressings, treatment tables and orthotics
* prescribe, produce, and fit orthotics and other aids and appliances
* provide specialist treatment and support for high‑risk patient groups such as older people and those with increased risk of amputation
* develop, implement and evaluate a seamless podiatry support service across the PCN, working with community and secondary care where appropriate, and aimed at continuously improving standards of patient care and wider multi‑disciplinary team working Undertake comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of musculoskeletal and podiatric conditions.
* deliver foot health education to patients, e.g. implement all aspects of effective clinical governance for their own practice, including undertaking regular audit and evaluation, supervision, and training
* Provide evidence‑based treatment plans, self‑management advice, and onward referral where clinically appropriate.
* Maintain accurate, timely clinical records on the practice clinical system.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc OR Pre‑Reg MSc in podiatry under a training programme approved by the college of podiatry
* HCPC‑registered Podiatrist.
* Experience of autonomous clinical decision‑making.
* Strong assessment, diagnostic, and clinical reasoning skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience working in or alongside primary care services.
* Excellent communication and patient‑centred consultation skills.
* IT‑literate with experience of clinical systems or willingness to learn.
* Ability to work flexibly across multiple practice sites.
* Experience working within a PCN or GP practice.
* Independent prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards this.
* Experience of service development or pathway redesign.
* Knowledge of ARRS roles and primary care DES requirements.
