Highways Maintenance Supervisor

We are seeking a proactive Highways Maintenance Supervisor to lead the planning and delivery of essential highway maintenance activities. In this role, you will coordinate operational teams, manage resources, and oversee on‑site works to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You’ll play a key role in maintaining the road network, minimising disruption to the public, and fostering a strong culture of safety and performance across the workforce and supply chain.
Duties
* Plan and coordinate highway maintenance activities to ensure works are delivered efficiently with minimal disruption to road users and stakeholders.
* Supervise operational teams and supply chain partners, driving high performance, accountability, and safe working practices.
* Procure plant and materials and manage road space bookings to ensure works are properly resourced and delivered on schedule.
* Prepare work packs and documentation, ensuring all Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental requirements are fully met.
* Oversee site operations, including safety briefings, inspections, depot management, and coordination of emergency or winter service activities.
* Monitor the skills and experience of operatives within the teams and work with Contracts Manager to plan training and development.
* Ensure costs are accurately recorded against schemes and any instructed changes in scope are captured to recover additional value where applicable.
Person Specification
* Background in Highways Maintenance
* Strong knowledge of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards within highway or construction environments.
* Experience planning works, coordinating resources, and managing operational teams or subcontractors.
* Ability to monitor budgets, track project performance, and manage changes to maintain financial control.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to lead teams and respond effectively to operational or emergency situations.
