We are looking to recruit a Visitor Experience Assistant to join our team based at our London site. You will join us on a part‑time basis, working 1,000 hours per year on a permanent contract. In return, you will receive a salary of £13,852.22 per annum.
The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non‑departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future – using the stories of its people and our collections to engage, inform and inspire. Our Vision is to inspire everyone with the RAF story – the people who shape it and its place in our lives. The Museum also runs a trading company and active fundraising that supplements Grant in Aid from the Ministry of Defence, and is a Carbon‑Literate organisation promoting Carbon Literacy.
Purpose of the Visitor Experience Assistant role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate team member who understands and is committed to providing customer service excellence and puts the visitor at the centre of everything they do. The ideal candidate will have previous visitor‑facing experience, ideally in a leisure or heritage environment. You will need to be a confident communicator, a team player and be able to respond quickly and positively in a changing environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Proactively ensure the highest possible visitor standards are maintained.
* Provide a warm welcome to our visitors and enhance every visitor’s experience through engagement and problem‑solving skills.
* Support activities, events, general museum operations and process visitor bookings at admissions.
* Promote and sell museum guidebooks, services, commercial activities and events to visitors.
* Assist with the museum’s fundraising and commercial activities.
* Provide a safe and secure experience for everyone.
* Serve as a first aider and fire marshal – training for both roles will be provided.
* Inspire visitors by sharing the Royal Air Force story and the stories of the people who shape it.
* Have the opportunity to give engaging talks to visitors.
This is a permanent, part‑time role working 1,000 hours annually. The working hours each week will be dependent on business requirements (maximum 35 hours per week during peak season and minimum 4 hours per week during off‑peak season). You will work a flexible pattern which will include some weekends, bank holidays and occasional evening/overnight work.
The role will be based at our London site.
