Energy & Commercial Modeller Would you like to be part of Vital Energi’s 5-year Strategy of Growth? If so, due to continuing success, we are experiencing rapid and extensive growth in all business sectors, and we are looking to recruit a Energy & Commercial Modeller with a successful background in the world of energy and construction. Vital Energi are at the forefront of the UK's low carbon energy generating systems of the future. We essentially work in the construction industry, in a rapidly expanding market for Heat and Power Solutions from renewable energy. As a leading turnkey engineering contractor, we design, install, operate and maintain environmentally friendly energy generating systems and networks. Due to Vital Energi's continued growth, we require an Energy & Commercial Modeller based at our Head Office in Blackburn, to work in this exciting and growing sector of the industry. The Opportunity: Reporting to the Principal Engineer for Strategy and Development, you will assist in the development of techno-economic models and help to prepare funding applications. This will include working closely with our wider Bid Team to undertake energy analysis and modelling to provide robust models to allow the development of concept designs and inform initial plant selections. This role involves modelling of district heating systems and other energy projects, and will require an understanding of technologies such as heat pumps, energy from waste, combined heat and power, boilers, thermal storage, solar and batteries. You will b.e heavily involved in Vital Energi’s development projects including bidding for and helping to develop Towns and Cities heat networks. This will involve presenting to a large range of clients and stakeholders. Working within the pre-construction Design team, you will be responsible for interpreting and manipulating half hourly energy data, estimating building demands, modelling buildings to determine heating and cooling loads and creating building energy profiles to size renewable energy plant. You will contribute to RIBA Stage 2 & 3 reports to support Tender and Bid submissions. Familiarity with modelling the integration of low carbon technologies into buildings and on an energy network scale would be advantageous. What you will be doing: * Creating techno-economic models to model district heating networks and other energy projects and determine the most economically advantageous outcomes. * Preparing funding applications * Meeting clients and coming up with bespoke solutions for clients projects. * Sizing renewable technology plant based on the demand curves created and commercial considerations using Excel spreadsheets and software such as Energy Pro * Interpret and manipulate data to provide annual demand curves from existing building data. This may be half hourly, daily, monthly or annual data for heating, cooling and power systems * Preparing summaries detailing modelling outputs for use in RIBA Stage 2 & 3 design reports. * Appraisal and interpretation of the client’s requirements inc Tender documentation * Liaising with Vital Energi’s in-house Bid Team, Solar PV designers and Proposals Engineers to influence designs and produce tender information. * Estimate building demands using available information and data, where information is not available use relevant benchmarks such as BSRIA and CIBSE to determine demands Who we are looking for: * Strong analytical skills and interest in problem solving, both technically and commercially. * Very good knowledge of Excel and specifically working with energy models, techno-economic models and commercial feasibility models * Good understanding of mechanical engineering, energy and thermodynamics. * An understanding around energy policy, especially in relation to heat networks would be advantageous but not essential * Good knowledge of low carbon energy technologies and ideally their integration into district energy networks * Experience of renewable technology selection software such as Energy Pro or similar would be advantageous * Experience of carbon reduction planning requirements in the built environment would be advantageous but not essential * Experience/ competence of being effective communicators, who are confident and focused, with the ability to manage their time and duties in a professional and effective way.
