About the Role
This is an opportunity to design high-impact, world-class digital learning experiences that don’t just teach, but transform. The successful candidate will blend behavioural psychology, neuroscience, strong UX, and storytelling to shape how people learn across schools, communities, and beyond.
The role is initially focused on designing digital learning for funded provision, including apprenticeships and Adult Skills Fund (ASF) courses for learners aged 16 and over. You’ll be creating engaging, inclusive content that supports real-world skills and personal growth. Over time, the scope will expand to include commercial learning products — offering the opportunity to shape courses that support broader audiences and more flexible, revenue-generating learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Build Digital Learning:
Design learner-centred, SCORM/xAPI-compliant courses using tools such as Articulate Rise, Storyline, Adobe Suite, and Canva
Create modular content aligned to the organisation’s proprietary learning structure (Echo, Core, Tools, Pulse)
Translate learning science into practical, engaging user experiences
Embed Gamification and Motivation Science:
Integrate gamification features such as progression maps, levelling, XP, badges, and challenges
Apply behavioural psychology models (e.g. Fogg Behaviour Model, Self-Determination Theory) to enhance learner engagement
Develop experiences that drive mastery, flow, and learner retention
Technology and Platforms:
Produce content in alignment with accessibility and mobile-first principles
Support platform development and optimisation alongside the digital projects team
Test and prototype new multimedia formats
Collaboration and Project Delivery:
Work with Learning Architects, subject specialists, and creative teams on high-quality course builds
Lead wireframes, scripting, and visual storyboarding sessions
Manage projects using agile workflows, ensuring timely delivery
Essential Skills and Experience
Experience in digital learning or instructional design
Strong capability in video editing, animation, motion graphics, and/or audio production (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Audition or similar)
Proficiency with content creation tools including Articulate Rise and Canva
Strong grasp of pedagogy, cognitive science, and behaviour change theory
Ability to simplify complex ideas into clear, visual, and interactive formats
Experience designing for accessibility and neurodiversity
Solid project management and collaboration skills
Desirable
Experience with LMS or LXP platforms (e.g. Moodle, Totara, LearnDash)
Familiarity with SCORM, xAPI, HTML5, or learning analytics
Experience with gamification tools or behaviour change frameworks
Storyboarding and scripting for audio/visual learning content
Personal Profile
Purpose-led and learner-focused
Passionate about how design feels as much as how it functions
Highly creative, yet research-informed
Collaborative by nature, and able to bring ideas to life from concept through to launch
