The OD, Policy and Projects Team within Cardiff Council sits within the HR Strategy Team which in turn is part of the wider HR People Services function. It’s an important part of the holistic HR service provided to managers and employees.
Cardiff Council is one of the largest public sector employers in South Wales. This role oversees the continuation of forward-thinking policies and employee culture, for an organisation of over 15,000 employees, and which supports the smooth running of over 700 services across the city.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to manage this growing and ambitious team.
About the job
This role will lead on organisational development, policy provision and priority HR projects within the HR People Services team.
You will line manage and coach your team members to develop them to their full potential, whilst also having the professional knowledge to resolve issues that have been escalated to you. You will play an active role in the HR management team.
The post holder will be the lead contact in these areas with other teams across the council, as well as Trade Unions, other Local Authorities and external agencies.
What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual capable of operating confidently strategically and operationally in a large, complex organisation. You will have experience of working with senior managers and trade unions, along with knowledge of organisational development, employment law, HR policies and procedures, and project delivery.
You will have excellent time management and delegation skills to manage a team with a varied and strategically important workload.
You will have outstanding communication skills, being able to convey complex / legislative information to non-technical audiences, as well as an ability to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders to enable successful delivery across multiple areas of HR.
