About the role
Are you passionate about supporting children who require help managing their emotions? Are you interested in making a difference to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds? Vision for Education is looking to appoint a PRU Teaching Assistant to work in Pupil Referral Units and Alternative Provisions in and around Kirklevington.
1. You will be supporting pupils in classrooms, helping them overcome barriers to learning and managing behavioural challenges.
2. The pupils are aged 11-16 with EHCPs for Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs, including Autism.
3. Building strong relationships with pupils quickly through fun, honesty, consistency, positive reinforcement, and respect is essential.
4. There are opportunities for this role to become permanent after a qualifying period.
About the school
1. The schools offer broad curricula tailored to students' needs and interests, including vocational opportunities.
2. Lessons are conducted in small groups of up to 8 pupils.
3. Most pupils are permanently excluded or at high risk of exclusion from mainstream schools but often re-engage successfully or achieve academic success within the provision.
4. Some pupils may display verbal or physical challenging behaviours; therefore, strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills are required.
Requirements
The ideal PRU Teaching Assistant will have:
1. Ability to facilitate a safe and positive learning environment and de-escalate threatening or aggressive behaviour.
2. Desire to mentor and engage with students, building positive relationships.
