Shape governance at the heart of the University
Are you passionate about high-quality governance and keen to make a real impact in a complex, dynamic organisation? We are seeking an experienced Senior Governance Manager to play a pivotal role in delivering professional, forward‑thinking governance services, and driving continuous improvement across the University.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong governance expertise who is curious about the higher education sector and eager to broaden their knowledge in a stimulating and values‑driven environment.
What can you expect?
You will join a friendly, supportive and highly professional team operating at the heart of the University's decision‑making. Working in a fast‑paced environment, we are committed to continually raising standards and delivering governance services that are trusted, influential and effective.
Our team is united by a shared passion for governance, but what truly sets us apart is the diversity of ideas, experiences and backgrounds we bring. We value collaboration, fresh thinking and inclusive ways of working - and we believe these are essential to excellent governance.
The role
* Lead and deliver high‑quality professional secretariat support to the University's most senior committees;
* Work closely with a peer manager to ensure a consistent, resilient and forward‑looking governance service;
* Build strong business partnering relationships with senior stakeholders, providing confident, credible advice;
* Support and develop your team by setting clear direction, empowering staff and enabling them to perform at their best.
What are we looking for?
* Extensive knowledge of governance principles and how they are applied in practice;
* Proven experience of managing people and supporting their development;
* Strong influencing and negotiating skills, with the ability to be diplomatic, confident and firm when required;
* A delivery‑focused mindset, with a commitment to quality, improvement and professionalism.
Don't meet every requirement?
We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single criterion. While relevant experience is important, we place equal value on your aptitude, motivation and commitment to excellence.
We know that diverse, inclusive and authentic teams deliver better outcomes and higher‑quality services. We also recognise that some people are less likely to apply unless they meet 100% of the requirements. If this role excites you and you believe you could make a difference, we would love to hear from you.
What we offer
This is a permanent, full‑time post (36.25 hours per week). Arrangements for job share would be considered.
At the University of Nottingham, we are committed to providing generous employment packages whilst supporting the well‑being of our staff to help them reach their full potential. As a University employee, you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including access to fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with 30 days' holiday allowance and a highly attractive pension scheme.
Interviews will take place within the first two weeks of June.
