JobDescription:
* Responsiblefor the performance of compatibility testing and the issue of Bloodand Blood Products to patients in routine and emergencysituations.
* Assisting in the maintenance of theHospital Blood Banks and the stock control of Blood & BloodProducts.
* Rotating into any area of thedepartment as required.
* Participating fully inthe departments 24/7 rota service.
* Prioritizingthe completion of urgent requests.
* Telephoningimportant results to an appropriate person whennecessary.
* Responsible for their own work underthe supervision of senior laboratorystaff.
* Validating and releasing results toservice users as required.
* Maintaining a highlevel of professional competence in the performance of all testsand investigations carried out in the department asappropriate.
* Preparing and ensuring adequatesupplies of reagents and consumables.
* Usingconsumables and equipment efficiently and safely in accordance withHealth & Safety policies.
* Performingthe routine maintenance and cleaning of the equipment with whichshe/he is working including maintenance records and recording ofcorrective actions.
* Processing internal andexternal quality control samples asrequired.
* Participating in quality assuranceprocedures in accordance with the laboratory qualitymanual.
* Participating in risk management of thedepartment including the reporting of adverseincidents.
* Assisting in research anddevelopment projects as required.
* Assisting inthe training and teaching of trainee biomedical scientists new BMSstaff MLAs medical staff and other healthcare professionals asrequired.
* Participating in staff appraisalaccording to Trust policies andprocedures.
* Undertaking continued professionaldevelopment.
* Personally responsible formaintaining HCPC Registration.
* Participating inall other activities in the section to enable the department tomaintain compliance.
