A well-established regional contractor with a strong presence across the South Coast is looking to bring in a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead themercial side of a £10 million public sector,mercial and leisure refurbishment project in Southampton.
The project is entering a key pre‑construction and procurement phase, and you’ll play a hands‑on role in shaping themercial approach before supporting the scheme as it progresses on site. This is a 12‑month contract position, with regular site involvement required, alongside hybrid working flexibility depending on workload and project needs.
About the ProjectThe scheme is a large‑scalemercial refurbishment, involving significant pre‑construction input, trade procurement, and phased delivery. The project demands strongmercial control, coordination with design and site teams, and clear cost certainty as works progress from pre‑con into construction.
The scope includes:
1. Pre‑constructionmercial planning and cost control
2. Procurement of multiple trade packages
3. Refurbishment works within an activemercial environment
4. Transition from pre‑con into site delivery
Responsibilities
5. Leadmercial management of a £10m refurbishment project
6. Oversee pre‑construction activities, including cost planning and risk management
7. Prepare, issue, and manage procurement and trade packages
8. Carry out tender analysis, negotiations, and subcontractor appointments
9. Manage project budgets, forecasts, and monthly cost reporting
10. Control variations, change management, andmercial risk
11. Work closely with the Project Manager and site team to support delivery
12. Support final account preparation andmercial close‑out
About You
13. Experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a main or regional contractor background
14. Proven experience onmercial refurbishment projects (£5m–£15m+)
15. Strong understanding of pre‑construction and procurement processes
16. Confident managing subcontractors andmercial negotiations
17. Practical, organised, andmercially astute
