Year 5 Teaching Assistant
Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Contract: Temporary with potential for ongoing or full-time role
Working Pattern: Term Time, 5 Days per Week

An inclusive primary school in Haywards Heath is seeking a committed and supportive Teaching Assistant to work with Year 5 pupils. The role focuses on assisting the class teacher in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, providing targeted support to individuals and small groups to enhance their learning and development in line with National Curriculum expectations for children aged 9-10 years.
Role Overview
* Support pupils in Year 5 to engage effectively in classroom activities and achieve their academic potential.
* Provide one-to-one or small group assistance, including support for pupils with additional learning needs.
* Assist with preparing and adapting learning resources to meet the diverse needs of pupils.
* Help monitor and record pupils’ progress, offering feedback to teachers to inform planning.
* Foster positive behaviour and a supportive learning environment consistent with school policies.
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff, and parents to support pupil wellbeing and achievement.
* Assist with supervision during breaks and extracurricular activities as required.
Person Specification
* Previous experience supporting learning in Key Stage 2 preferred, including with Year 5 pupils.
* Understanding of the developmental and educational needs of children aged 9-10 years.
* Ability to support pupils with a range of abilities and additional needs in an inclusive setting.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Patience, flexibility, and a positive, proactive approach to supporting learning.
* Relevant qualifications or training in education or SEND support are desirable.
