Job Overview
We are seeking a high-caliber, experienced Solicitor or Barrister (or equivalent) to handle complex legal work related to litigation. Responsibilities include the day-to-day supervision, management, and monitoring of solicitors in the Litigation Team dealing with criminal and civil litigation (excluding social services litigation). The role also involves legal work connected to the Council’s regulatory, housing, employment, education, debt recovery, governance legal matters, and quasi-judicial functions. The successful candidate will advise the Council, Cabinet, Committees, and Directorates on legal issues, represent the Council in court, tribunals, hearings, and inquiries.
Additional Responsibilities
* Be a member of the Directorate Management Team.
* Support the Monitoring Officer as a Deputy Monitoring Officer.
* Work with other Deputy Monitoring Officers in the absence of the Monitoring Officer.
* May deputise for the Director and Monitoring Officer on occasions, including on politically sensitive matters.
Qualifications
Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (or equivalent) with experience in litigation and legal management.
