Principal Designer Job in South East London
in South East London, leading a growing team of Principal Designers for an AJ Top 100 Architectural Practice, working on exciting heritage and conservation projects. The role offers a salary of up £65,000 + 25 days holiday + Hybrid Working.
The Architectural practice was founded over half a century ago and has grown to over 250 people across multiple UK offices. They have established themselves as an industry leader in planning advice, heritage consultancy, building surveying, conservation and contemporary architecture. Working with public bodies, charities, trusts, private companies, contractors, developers and individuals, they have been involved in the care and development of some of the best-loved buildings and in the UK and abroad.
Role & Responsibilities
1. Advise project design team members and clients on Health and Safety risk management matters in line with current UK and sometimes international CDM Regulations
2. Develop the role of CDM PD within the company
3. Review projects and designs prioritising CDM PD appointed projects and advising on any other projects to allow office-wide consistency on pre-construction Health and Safety matters and standards
4. Collate, organise, and assist the client in providing pre-construction information
5. Manage and coordinate the health and safety aspects during the pre-construction phase
6. Prepare and issue the health and safety file on completion
7. Assist with compiling and developing guidance material and management tools
8. Develop and give training to in-house design disciplines
9. Carry out research into Health and Safety Standards (National and International) and good practice
10. Where necessary liaise with Enforcing Authorities
11. Critically appraise Design Risk Assessments submitted by project design team
12. Assist with the completion of Design Risk Assessments.
Required Skills & Experience
13. Experience and understanding of design and construction management and methodologies
14. Architecture or consultancy background
15. Proven skills in the delivery of CDM/H&S consultancy services
16. NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent IOSH membership and Member of APS
17. Proven experience in leading a Principal Designer / CDM team
18. Degree in either architecture, architecture technology, construction or engineering
19. Heritage project experience would be advantageous.
