Offer description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

This is a fixed-term post of 3 years, starting from 1st September 2025.

The shift pattern for this position is Monday to Friday.

This National Training Post aims to lead to registration as a Clinical Scientist with the Healthcare Professions Council. The post will be based within the Edinburgh Fertility Centre and Department of Reproductive Endocrinology (EFC&DRE) at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Approximately 600 cycles of assisted reproduction treatment (IVF/ICSI/PGT), 450 cycles of frozen embryo transfer, and 2000 laboratory investigations are carried out annually in EFC. The service offers comprehensive fertility care for couples in Edinburgh and South East Scotland, working with NHS Lothian, primary care, and other stakeholders to ensure consistent standards across Scotland.

The successful candidate will join a team of dedicated embryologists and, under supervision, will participate in all embryology and andrology procedures for infertility assessment and treatment, including IVF, ICSI, gamete recruitment and donation, cryopreservation, and surgical sperm retrieval. The post requires training and delivering clinical work to a high standard with meticulous attention to detail. Candidates must hold a recognised Life Sciences degree (2:2 or above), with an MSc or PhD preferred, and have employment experience within an IVF laboratory.

Interviews are scheduled for 11th July 2025, and the successful candidate must be available to commence employment on 1st September 2025.

For informal enquiries, contact Joanne Leitch, Consultant Clinical Embryologist, at 0141 211 8540 or Joanne.Leitch2@nhs.scot.

Further details on the application process can be found in the Candidate Information Packs.
