Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative pharmacist with oncology/haematology skills and experience to lead our cancer services and aseptic production team. This post is initially offered as a band 8a to band 8b development role. You will develop skills to lead the service providing an oncology and haematology clinical pharmacy service to our chemotherapy day unit and inpatient haematology ward, with support from the Deputy Chief Pharmacist and the Pharmacy cancer speciality network across our new 3 Trust Group. On progression to band 8a, the post holder will be the Accountable Pharmacist for the aseptic production unit and will provide professional pharmacist support including clinically screening prescriptions for chemotherapy and authorising final release of products for administration to patients. As the lead pharmacist you will be a source of advice for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals for cancer services, offer junior pharmacist rotations in cancer services, and participate in multidisciplinary and governance meetings.
Key responsibilities
* Adult cancer services – provide person-centred care and ensure that drug therapy is safe, effective and cost-effective.
* Represent the Trust at the Regional Cancer Network.
* Liaise with commissioners, including NHS England, to ensure correct funding channels for the use of all medication.
* Paediatric oncology – ensure treatments are safe, effective, peer reviewed, and in the best interests of the patient.
* Chemotherapy electronic prescribing – act as lead pharmacist to support the team implementing the EPR module for electronic chemotherapy.
* Provide strategic leadership to pharmacy cancer services and the aseptic production unit.
