Access Training, now part of the University of Sunderland group, is a rapidly growing apprenticeship and commercial training provider offering high‑quality programmes in Business and Management, Digital and Technical, Accountancy, and Fire, Emergency, and Security Systems.
About the role
We are seeking a Commercial Director to lead our sales, marketing, and business development activities and to play a strategic role in shaping the organisation’s future.
You will work closely with internal teams, the University of Sunderland, and external stakeholders to drive growth and ensure long-term sustainability. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing growth plans, managing a talented team, launching new training products, and building strong partnerships, including a joint work‑based‑learning initiative with the University.
Staying ahead of policy changes and market trends, and reporting on commercial performance and opportunities, will be key to your success.
About you
You should have senior‑level success in sales, business development, or commercial leadership within apprenticeships, training, or higher education. You are experienced in growing revenue, developing teams, and managing complex stakeholder relationships with confidence and analytical insight.
Experience with universities or further education providers, knowledge of apprenticeship funding rules, and skills in creating work‑based‑learning or CPD programmes would be advantageous.
Why work for us?
This is a fantastic career opportunity to influence a respected provider during an exciting expansion. You will be part of a supportive, ambitious culture where your decisions impact learners, employers, and the wider economy.
We offer a salary range of £58,000 - £64,000 depending on experience, along with a 10% employer pension contribution, 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, additional time off at Christmas, and CPD opportunities. Our hybrid working model requires approximately half of your time on-site or with clients; this role is not suitable for fully remote work.
