Hydro Aluminium Metal is a leading supplier of extrusion ingots, sheet ingots, foundry alloys, wire rods, and high-purity aluminium, with a global production network of around 6,000 employees. With primary metal production facilities in Europe, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and Qatar, and recycling facilities throughout Europe and the U.S., two-thirds of our primary aluminium production is based on renewable energy.
About the role
As HSE Director you will be part of the larger AM team, whilst being 100% dedicated to Recycling. This means that you get support from a functional network of experts whilst being responsible for Business Unit Recycling.
You will attend the leadership meetings in Recycling providing HSE updates as well as the EVP safety meetings. The position offers a great opportunity to work closely with our plants and to drive the HSE network across Recycling, and to develop, improve and maintain Safety, Environment, Health and Security in the Business Unit.
What you will be doing
1. Develop and maintain HSE capability and competence throughout the organization, fostering a caring environment and culture in the organization where people dare to speak up
2. Lead the network of HSE core team, composed of HSE managers from the 14 Recycling plants, located in Europe and USA.
3. Together with the business, develop an HSE roadmap focusing on key priorities and monitoring execution and impact
4. Ensure safety risk assessments are conducted
5. Establish and ensure appropriate governance system and structure complying with legislation and Hydro internal directives as well as the system Synergi
6. Conduct safety audits and training
7. Support the sites with competence as needed and provide direct support for investigation of serious incidents
8. Drive a strong team structure across the plants fostering best practice transfer and learning
9. Support Recycling BU strategic objectives and growth, by HSE expertise on new projects or acquisitions and by fostering collaboration with other functions in Aluminium Metal.
What will make you successful?
10. Relevant Master’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related field
11. Strong leadership experience within Health, Safety and Environment
12. The ability to influence across functions and seniority levels
13. Experience working with audits, compliance and governance frameworks
14. Confidence in incident investigation and risk management
15. A collaborative mindset with the ability to build networks across locations
16. Passion for culture building, employee engagement and continuous learning
17. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
