The course includes eight units: Engaging & Communicating with Young People, Safeguarding, Youth Work Theory, Young People's Development, Reflective Practice, Work-based Practice, Working with Behaviour that Challenges, Group Work, & a varied selection of optional units, all reflecting the broad competencies needed for effective youth support.

Responsibilities and requirements include:

* Hold a caseload of Young People who require support with mental health, mentoring or other youth work intervention
* Completing a programme of study at level 3 which is relevant to the role
* Be willing to build relationships with young people and their wider communities
* Become confident in working with groups of young people
* Be confident in working with young people one to one (in line with our lone working policy)
* Carrying out the role with enthusiasm, integrity and professionalism
* Understanding the barriers some young people face and how to address them
* Support the recruitment of young people to programmes
* Ensure the voice of young people and family is heard in discussions and decisions
* Identify challenges and concerns and work with the young person to overcome challenges
* Attend meetings when appropriate, to help young people achieve positive outcomes
* To address practical issues and challenges that are affecting young people
* Provide advice, guidance, and information to young people to allow them to make informed decisions
* Build positive relationships with young people, other agencies and the YG team to achieve the outcomes for young people
* Develop resources for projects as and when needed
* To support young people with all areas of their mental health
* Maintain a quality service to young people across all provision
* To provide regular reporting on the activities' progress
* Carry out regular risk assessments of all activities prior to delivery
* To ensure safeguarding of young people
* To ensure the use of established recording and monitoring computerised systems using Upshot, Recognise, manage and reflect upon relational boundaries in professional youth support work
* Communicate with stakeholders - internal and/or external
* Facilitate the learning and development of young people
* Encourage the participation of young people in developing their own learning
* Facilitate activities and techniques to use with young people that promote self-confidence and build self-esteem and resilience
* Reflect individually and through supervision on practice in line with daily tasks to enhance the support young people receive
* Monitor and record the outcomes of own practice to identify areas for development and improvement
* Appropriately manage behaviour boundaries in line with organisational policies
* Plan youth support work programmes and sessions
* Lead youth support work programmes and sessions
* Evaluate youth support work programmes and sessions
* Enable young people to express their views, aspirations, needs and concerns appropriately in line with youth support work principles
* Identify, appropriately challenge and act upon oppressive or discriminatory attitudes, behaviours and situations
* Support young people to participate in planning, organising, delivering and evaluating youth work activities and programmes, and engaging on issues of importance to them
* Embeds in own practice a commitment to the rights of young people
* Apply safeguarding procedures and protocols
* Work within the parameters of organisational, local and national health and safety, child protection, data protection and equalities policies and procedures
* Participate in risk assessments and manage risk and risk benefits within the workplace
* Record all health and safety risks and take the correct actions to ensure the safety of all young people
* Complete administrative responsibilities e.g., signing in young people, risk assessments and recording activities
* Manage budgets and resources
* Manage individuals in line with organisational procedures
* Work with and maintain professional behaviour boundaries when working with young people

Training schedule: The apprentice will attend face-to-face training one day a week with Young Gloucestershire training team, undertaking all elements of the apprentice requirements. The apprentice will be required to complete a diploma and end point assessment.

Requirements: Driver's License (grade FULL UK (not provisional)), GCSE in English (grade 4) and Maths (grade 4). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Skills required: Communication skills, IT skills, Attention to detail, Organisation skills, Problem solving skills, Team working, Initiative, Non judgemental, Patience.

Following completion of the apprenticeship, you will have a level 3 youth support qualification and will be able to progress into youth work positions, TA roles in schools, welfare roles in colleges.
