A vacancy has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join this leading civil engineering business based at offices in North and South Yorkshire.
Whilst the role will be office-based, travel to sites and subcontractor premises will be required, which may include overnight stays.
The role encompasses the following duties:
* Management of the Commercial Team comprising Estimators, Buyers, and Quantity Surveyors.
* Risk analysis and advising on contractual matters.
* Identifying, valuing, and agreeing on additional works and scope within the project, including preparing and agreeing variations, quotations, and re-rates.
* Preparation of contractual and general correspondence.
* Raising and responding to contractual notices, early warning notices, compensation events, variations, and negotiations with Employers and their representatives.
* Cost control, management, and comparison against budgets and tender allowances.
* Preparing and updating financial reports, including detailed monthly CVRs, cash flow forecasts, weekly site costs, commercial risk registers, material wastage reconciliations, and other reports.
* Preparing, negotiating, and agreeing interim applications, valuations, and final accounts with the Site QS, including claims for compensation events, additional works, delays, disruptions, and financing.
* Providing commercial advice and support to the project team on costs, contractual matters, strategies, and risks.
* Collaborating with project planners to prepare and update contract programmes, including benchmarking and cause-and-effect programmes.
* Procurement of subcontractors and consultants, including preparing subcontract documents and consultancy orders.
* Mentoring and leading site Quantity Surveyors and head office commercial staff.
* Managing subcontractors and consultants from enquiry to final accounts, including handling applications, notices, claims, variations, interim payments, and liabilities.
* Attending progress, design, and subcontractor meetings.
* Maintaining accurate site records, measures, and diaries.
* Ensuring compliance with company systems and best practices.
* Supporting bid teams in tender preparations.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Minimum of ten years post-qualification experience on turnkey projects as a contractor.
* Ability to work with diverse business cultures.
* Strong leadership skills.
* Client-focused approach.
* Ability to plan, manage, and coordinate subcontractors, designers, and consultants.
* Strong knowledge of NEC forms of Contract.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
* High numeracy and literacy levels.
