The Opportunity
Are you a resilient advocate for young people with the ability to navigate complex social landscapes and break down barriers to learning?
We are seeking a dedicated and emotionally intelligent Pastoral Manager to join a forward-thinking school in Lambeth. Located in a vibrant, multi-cultural borough that sits at the heart of London’s social and economic evolution, this school is committed to the "whole child" approach. We are looking for a non-teaching professional who can provide a stable, supportive presence for students, ensuring that every individual—regardless of their background—has the emotional and social foundation to succeed.
-----------------------------------
Core Responsibilities
* Student Advocacy: Managing the day-to-day pastoral care for a specific year group or cohort, acting as the first point of contact for students facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
* Behaviour for Learning: Implementing the school’s behaviour policy with consistency and empathy, conducting restorative justice meetings, and developing individualised "Behaviour Support Plans."
* Safeguarding Vigilance: Working as a key member of the safeguarding team, identifying "at-risk" students, and maintaining meticulous records on systems like CPOMS or MyConcern.
* Multi-Agency Liaison: Coordinating with external partners, including Social Research, CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), and the Youth Offending Service to ensure a 360-degree support network.
* Parental Engagement: Building strong, trusting relationships with families, conducting home visits where necessary, and leading "Parent Workshops" on topics such as online safety and mental health.
* Crisis Intervention: Providing immediate de-escalation and support during "point of crisis" moments, helping students regulate their emotions and return to learning.
-----------------------------------
Why This School?
* Lambeth’s Rich Diversity: Work in a borough known for its creative energy and community resilience, providing a rewarding environment for those passionate about social justice and mobility.
* A "Trauma-Informed" Culture: Join a school that prioritises staff training in restorative practice, attachment theory, and mental health first aid.
* Collaborative Support Network: Work alongside a robust team of Year Leaders, SENDCos, and School Counsellors in a department where "no child is left behind."
* Professional Growth: Access to specialist CPD in Advanced Safeguarding (Level 3), Mediation, and pathways toward Senior Pastoral Lead or Safeguarding Lead (DSL) roles.
-----------------------------------
Candidate Profile
* Experience: Proven experience working with young people in a pastoral, social work, or youth-mentoring capacity—ideally within an urban secondary school setting.
* Skills: Exceptional de-escalation skills, a deep understanding of the challenges facing urban youth, and the ability to remain calm and objective in high-pressure situations.
* Communication: An articulate and empathetic communicator who can speak with authority to external professionals and with warmth to students and parents.
* Character: A resilient, non-judgmental, and proactive individual who possesses a "thick skin" and a genuine heart for the wellbeing of young people.
