Location and Hours
Location: Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust area (St Georges Stafford and related housekeeping locations mentioned in original posting).
Hours: 15:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday only
Pay: £12.36 per hour
Job Purpose
The Housekeeping staff provide a clean and safe environment to our patients, visitors and staff, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness in line with National Cleaning Standards, infection control and health and safety requirements.
The post holder will work as part of the wider Housekeeping team and may undertake duties in other areas of the Hotel Services Department as needs of the service demand.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintain the required standard of cleaning services following the correct procedure and frequencies
* Undertake a variety of cleaning duties in line with ward/area/location cleaning schedules
* Operate mechanical cleaning equipment
* Replenish disposables and consumables
* Safely and correctly store cleaning chemicals and equipment
* Carry out specialist cleaning and one-off cleaning duties in line with service requirements
* Assist with laundry duties as and when required
Ward based duties (where applicable): Ward based catering duties to ensure, in conjunction with nursing staff, that service users are provided with appropriate meals; regenerate food, probe and record temperature of food and serve; ensure meals are served in a presentable and timely manner with appropriate cutlery and condiments; assist to ensure dining room area is ready for service and cleared afterwards; record waste levels at end of service; clean regeneration trolley.
Other Responsibilities
* Support the supervisor on a day-to-day basis
* Support induction and training of other employees
* Comment on Housekeeping policies and procedures
* Work in a team of housekeeping staff as required, assisting with training and guidance
* Complete own timesheets
* Respond to tasks arising in emergencies or times of staff shortage
* Flexible working within a team
* Monitor and maintain stock levels, including records
* Participate in cleanliness audits and follow up actions as required
* Take personal duty of care for all equipment used daily and report any misuse or faults
* Open/close buildings and set alarms to ensure premises are secure at day end

Floor scrubber, Rotowash, Buffer, Vacuum cleaner, Steamers
Decision and Judgement
The postholder has no staff management responsibilities and works within established procedures with supervision available for reference. The role may require assessing situations and determining appropriate actions, including fault finding on equipment.
Communication and Relationships
Assist with induction and training of new starters, apprentices and colleagues. Provide general non-clinical guidance to patients, clients, relatives or carers where appropriate. Communicate with patients, including those with communication difficulties.
Physical Demands
Use of cleaning equipment; moderate physical effort for short periods during shifts.
Most Challenging/Difficult Parts
Exposure to hazards and potential emotional or distressing circumstances on wards.
Qualifications and Experience
Full training will be given. Previous experience in a similar role is an advantage, as would previous NHS experience. Candidates should meet essential aspects of the Person Specification as described in the job description.
