Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher - Translation Biology
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Translation Biology Research Group led by Professor Kerry Fisher and Alex Gordon-Weeks. The group focuses on understanding the human tumour microenvironment (TME) and its role in cancer progression, immune evasion, and therapeutic resistance.
Our research emphasizes the use of advanced human tumour models, including organ/tumour perfusion, slice culture, and organoids, to ensure data relevance and inspire effective treatments. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, manage laboratory operations, and collaborate with other groups. They will also serve as a deputy human tissue point of contact for the department, providing guidance on human tissue work. Full training for this advisory role will be provided.
The role includes supervising junior team members, visiting scientists, and international collaborators. Department members are encouraged to participate in postgraduate teaching, typically 2-3 lectures or tutorials per year.
Qualifications and Skills
* PhD/DPhil (or near completion) in cancer biology, immunology, or cell biology.
* Exceptional organizational skills, including sample management and electronic lab book maintenance.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a laboratory environment and supervise junior staff.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Experience with flow cytometry and tissue culture.
* Experience with advanced tissue culture techniques (organoids, spheroids, primary tissue culture) is desirable but not essential.
