Position Summary The John Locke Institute is seeking articulate, intellectually rigorous, and highly responsible Interviewers to support the admissions process for its Summer Schools. Interviewers play a central role in identifying students of exceptional intellectual promise, curiosity, and character. Through structured, academically serious interviews, they assess candidates’ reasoning ability, clarity of expression, and alignment with the Institute’s academic ethos. Interviewers act as representatives of the John Locke Institute’s commitment to seriousness, fairness, and intellectual integrity. Successful candidates will approach interviews with professionalism, sound judgement, and intellectual generosity, contributing directly to the selection of outstanding students from around the world. Key Responsibilities Admissions Interviews and Evaluation Conduct admissions interviews with Summer School applicants in line with Institute guidelines and standards. Assess candidates’ argumentative ability, clarity of thought, intellectual curiosity, and readiness for rigorous academic engagement. Evaluate spoken English proficiency to a high academic standard. Identify students who demonstrate both exceptional potential and strong alignment with the Institute’s values. Judgement and Reporting Produce clear, accurate, and well-reasoned interview evaluations within required timeframes. Apply consistent admissions criteria while exercising independent and balanced judgement. Identify exceptional candidates as well as any potential concerns with professionalism and discretion. Representation of the Institute Embody the John Locke Institute’s commitment to free inquiry, intellectual humility, and courteous disagreement. Engage candidates with seriousness, respect, and encouragement, ensuring a fair and thoughtful interview experience. Communicate clearly and professionally with admissions staff as required. Academic background in philosophy, politics, economics, law, history, or a closely related discipline. Doctoral candidates and recent graduates from Oxford, Cambridge, or Ivy League universities are strongly preferred. C1-level proficiency in spoken and written English (or equivalent). Demonstrated ability to construct, analyse, and discuss arguments clearly and persuasively. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Desirable Prior experience in interviewing, admissions, tutoring, debating, or academic mentoring. Familiarity with selective academic environments or competitive admissions processes.
