MHST Clinical Team Leader - South & West Hertfordshire

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Team Leader to work at the forefront of innovation in Children's & Young People's Mental Health. The role supports the delivery of interventions for CYP in education settings across Hertfordshire, with a focus on increasing access to mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people within educational settings.


Job Summary

This newly established role requires leadership, assessment, planning, organizing, reviewing and support in the clinical formulations of therapeutic interventions within MHST teams in Hertfordshire. The post holder will deliver evidence-based interventions and provide clinical guidance in supervision to Senior Practitioners, in line with clinical governance and professional standards. The post may involve redeployment as Interim Team Leader to other MHST teams in the county to cover vacancies or leave, with line management responsibilities for Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) in the allocated team.


Main duties of the job

* Establish and maintain team systems and processes for effective operation, including outcome measurements, audit and annual service policy review.
* Provide leadership and advice across the MHST Service in collaboration with fellow Team Leaders.
* Undertake triage and review initial assessments of health and psychosocial care needs of CYP in educational settings; review risk assessments for children and adolescents with mild to moderate mental health and social needs.
* Provide consultation to staff, professionals in MHST, teachers and family workers on mental health issues in children and young people in schools.
* Offer interventions such as CBT, solution-focused work, guided self-help and group support within educational settings.
* Enhance emotional wellbeing and resilience through educational workshops, assemblies and PSHE lessons; deliver psychoeducation and support to parents, carers and teachers.
* Provide clinical supervision and line management to the team using CBT-based approaches; produce accurate records, reports and observations.
* Refer on or signpost to appropriate specialist services; liaise with Specialist CAMHS, Mental Health School Leads, Children’s Services and GPs; signpost to voluntary agencies.
* Ensure computer literacy and working knowledge of relevant IT software; measure outcomes for all interventions and understand data collection importance.
* Participate in quality care in line with NICE Guidance & Quality Standards; engage in regular managerial and clinical supervision; contribute to multi-disciplinary team work.
* Participate in audit, evaluation and research projects as agreed with professional and line management; collaborate with team members in audit and research projects.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential

* A registerable professional qualification in a relevant subject (e.g., psychology, social work, counselling, nursing, psychotherapy) or equivalent evidence-based mental health interventions experience with young people.
* Experience of working with CYP with emerging mental health needs and with leadership/management of a clinical team; experience of multi-professional working and case management.
* Understanding of educational settings and knowledge of social and educational contributions to mental health; experience of community-focused care and completing assessments.
* Ability to lead a multi-professional team and provide ongoing operational clinical and professional supervision; budget and resource management; understanding of mental health legislation and safeguarding policy.

Desirable

* Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., MSc) in relevant fields; management qualifications (Cert or Dip in Management).
* Experience of working within an education setting.


Other Requirements

* Car owner and driving licence.
* UK professional registration and DBS clearance as required.

* Contract: Permanent
* Working pattern: Full-time
* Pay: Band 7 (£50,008 to £56,908 per annum, pro rata, inclusive of 5% HCAS)
