Job Overview
An exciting position has arisen in the Cataract Centre at Withington Community Hospital, Manchester. The role of Healthcare Support Worker will see the successful candidate working as part of the multi‑disciplinary team of nurses, doctors, consultants, optometrists and clerical/admin staff. You will also encounter other staff working within the hospital including porters, domestic services, catering and other disciplines.
Responsibilities
* Meet clients and family in the pre‑op and post‑op clinics.
* Conduct baseline observations including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, visual acuity testing and eye pressure.
* Administer drops and assist in the pre‑operative assessment to ensure individual surgical needs are met.
* Act as circulating practitioner in the theatre, assisting during surgery and ensuring patients’ health and well‑being needs are met.
* Work in the day‑case area and ensure patients’ nutritional needs are met.
Qualifications
* Holds National Care Certificate or be willing to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of starting.
* Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or GCSE equivalent or achieve a pass following completion of level 1 functional skills assessment.
* Will be required to undertake level 2 apprenticeship in health care.
Experience
* Experience working in a healthcare, social care organisation/setting or service industry requiring people contact.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of working within a health care environment.
