Overview
Our Development Management Service plays a vital role in delivering sustainable, well‑designed development that supports Wiltshire’s communities, economy, and natural environment. As part of this service, the Conservation and Design Team champions design excellence, place‑making, and policy‑led outcomes across the county.
Key Responsibilities
* Shape high‑quality residential, employment, and mixed‑use development; provide expert design advice on a wide range of planning applications.
* Support economic growth while safeguarding environmental quality and local character.
* Work collaboratively with Planning and Environment and external partners; assess major and complex schemes with a focus on character, context, movement, public realm, and building design; provide clear, constructive guidance.
* Lead design briefs and support development plan documents; coordinate multidisciplinary teams; mentor colleagues and maintain high standards of quality and consistency.
* Provide authoritative advice to Members, officers, stakeholders and the public.
Qualifications
* Recognised degree‑level qualification in urban design, architecture or a related discipline.
* Strong technical knowledge of urban design principles, planning policies and environmental considerations.
* Effective communication skills – able to explain complex issues, negotiate positive outcomes and manage a varied workload.
