Our advanced manufacturing site in Hereford is one of our main processing facilities, processing up to 2 million birds per week. There are over 1,500 talented people employed at our Hereford site, helping us to deliver high quality products to our customers and making the business a trusted leader in fresh foods. We’ve recently invested £1.2 million in technology and equipment, making it one of the most advanced food manufacturing facilities in the UK.
The Role
We are looking for a highly competent and motivated Health & Safety Officer to join our Health & Safety Team, based at our Hereford site.
The role is office-based, however you will be required to spend time in the factory so you’ll be exposed to a fast‑paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment which is noisy and refrigerated in some areas.
As a Health & Safety Officer you’ll be working Monday to Friday 08.00-16.30, 40 hours per week, but flexibility is required to support across evenings and weekends on occasion.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing advice and support to site teams on Health and Safety matters.
* Supporting incident investigation, evaluating causes and exploring corrective actions.
* Supporting risk assessment, risk management and risk improvement.
* Attending regular departmental and site meetings to report on KPIs and discuss current safety topics.
* Inputting to the Safety Management System and KPI dashboard.
* Conducting and supporting safety inspections and audits.
* Maintaining the Focus platform, reviewing reports and analysing data.
* Involvement with external parties, such as insurers, fire service, etc.
* Ongoing research and learning to expand your knowledge base.
Qualifications & Experience
* A good working knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety Management in practice.
* Experience of managing safety in an operational environment (preferably manufacturing, although construction, logistics, agriculture or similar would be useful).
* NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent qualification.

* Ability to cope under pressure, and discuss/debate topics whilst maintaining composure and professionalism.

* Ability to be honest about limitations of one's own knowledge, and understand where to look/who to ask.
* Must be able to work well autonomously, as well as part of a team.
