We are recruiting a full-time permanent Best Interests Assessor (BIA) to join our team due to the promotion of the existing postholder.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Carry out Best Interests assessments and ensure compliance with safe systems of work in accordance with SCC's Policies and Procedures.
2. Work with colleagues, and partners/stakeholders in health and the independent sector, to ensure DoLS assessments are undertaken where appropriate, avoiding unlawful detention.
3. Ensure a referral is made and a less restrictive care/treatment plan is identified and recommended when an adult with care and support needs is suspected of being unlawfully deprived of their liberty.
4. Undertake assessments within the required legal timescales.
5. Maintain records of work activities according to approved Policies and Procedures, including using a computer system (Care Director).
6. Support the BIA Team Manager in disseminating information and training about the DOLS process to colleagues, service users, carers, and the public.
7. Ensure ongoing personal and professional development to meet registration requirements, including maintaining BIA status.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Best Interests Assessor Qualification by an approved institution.
* Current Professional registration.
* Enhanced assessment and risk assessment skills.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Enhanced knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
* Understanding of disability, older persons, carers, and young carers, and their impact on individuals, families, and society.
* Knowledge of adult physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development, and family dynamics.
