Job Description
WSP Civil Services team is seeking a CAD Manager to contribute to large‑scale national and international projects. The role involves leading CAD Technicians, producing high‑quality engineering drawings and 2D/3D CAD models, and ensuring consistent delivery throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work closely with the wider engineering team to develop and deliver projects from feasibility/option studies through detailed design to construction. Key responsibilities include leading the CAD team, mentoring staff, controlling quality of output, and serving as the technical subject matter expert for CAD and BIM activities. The role also requires active participation in design workshops, establishing workflows, reviewing drawings for compliance with in‑house and client standards, maintaining drafting standards, and ensuring adherence to the company’s CAD/BIM Standards, Health and Safety, and risk management procedures.
Key Skills & Qualifications
* Extensive industry experience on civil design projects, ideally in airports, highway/pavement, or maritime sectors.
* Experience in 2D modelling, design coordination and delivery using a range of Autodesk software packages (Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Navisworks).
* Strong ability in engineering drawing preparation and construction detailing.
* Capability to challenge and contribute to engineering detailing.
* Experience with CDE platforms such as Bentley ProjectWise and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
* Active participation in design and provision of input to the design team throughout the design process, including the set‑up of project‑specific workflows or drawing templates.
* Reviewing drawings to ensure compliance with in‑house and client drafting standards.
* Maintaining and developing in‑house drafting standards.
* Deliver training, mentoring and guidance to develop team skills in the production of deliverables and model creation.
* Ensuring that delivery is achieved in accordance with the company's management systems, including CAD/BIM Standards, Health and Safety, project and risk management.
* Review, contribution and implementation of the modelling delivery process (MF1).
* Working knowledge of BIM standards such as PAS 1192 and BS EN ISO 19650.
* Implementation of technical quality requirements, addressing the project brief and meeting client deadlines.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and experienced in Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil 3D modelling of civil infrastructure projects, with previous experience in either Airport, Highway/Pavement or Maritime sectors.
Minimum Requirements
* Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD CAD software.
* Proficient in the production of high‑quality engineering drawings.
* Good experience and working knowledge of Civil 3D modelling software.
* Proficient in the use of Autodesk Construction Cloud and in defining and managing workflows.
* Previous experience in either Airport, Highway/Pavement or Maritime sectors.
* Detail‑oriented and highly organised.
* Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Experience in defining and managing team training or developing team members in CAD software packages and drawing quality.
