Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the orthopaedic team at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. A one year fixed term Trust doctor post (ST3+) is available.
Responsibilities
The post holder will work within the multidisciplinary team and will be assigned to two consultants over the one year period (six months each). The timetable includes substantial theatre time, clinics, ward rounds and on‑call commitments as well as protected time for research and admin. The department is committed to education and there is a weekly formal multidisciplinary educational meeting, in addition to daily trauma meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to take part in audit, research and education and attend appropriate surgical courses, for which a study leave budget will be available. The department is committed to supporting the clinical fellow in furthering their skills as a surgeon. The post holder will manage new and follow‑up patients, undertake clinics (orthopaedic/fracture), operating theatre lists and administration. There is a regular Saturday all day trauma list, daily duty lists, and regular main theatre and day case elective lists.
Regular ward rounds including ward rounds with orthogeriatric consultant will be required. The orthopaedic department also holds regular multidisciplinary sports injury clinics with the sports and exercise medicine department.
Commitments
The post holder will deputise, so far as is practicable, for absent colleagues and, when necessary, for consultants. They will be required to undertake such exceptional irregular commitments outside normal hours as are essential for continuity of patient care, duty in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. The on‑call rota is 1 in 10 and includes overnight cover and weekends; it is a 1C banded post.
Qualifications & Requirements
All employees are required to have the appropriate level of English language competence to enable them to effectively carry out their role, deliver safe care and enhance the patient experience. The post holder will be working as part of the trauma and orthopaedic team on both elective and emergency surgery, and will be with one of the specialist teams, working alongside middle grade staff.
