Assistant Buyer

Atkinson Moss are delighted to be exclusively supporting a local company with a UK presence and global website in their search for an Assistant Buyer. You’ll play a key role in supporting the Buying Manager to drive the department’s performance. You will help to achieve sales, stock, and margin targets through product range development and trading, efficient department operations, and strong supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

* Monitor and analyse category/product performance; identify sales patterns and competitor insights to guide decisions.

* Compile weekly trade summaries; take actions to drive sales through stock and repeat opportunity management.

* Spot commercial opportunities (e.g., pricing, range gaps, over-ranging) and recommend adjustments.

* Maintain range plans and systems; ensure timely launches and clear stakeholder communication.

* Manage the product development critical path; meet key milestones and ensure timely supplier payments.

* Evaluate and report on pricing strategy and market positioning regularly.

* Source and engage with new suppliers; negotiate favourable terms while maintaining strong existing relationships.

* Contribute insights on trends and competitor activity during product meetings, supported by market research.

* Assist the Buyer’s Assistant with daily tasks and workload prioritization.

* Attend trade shows and supplier visits to support sourcing and product development.

Key Skills

* Strong commercial awareness and product knowledge

* Effective decision-making

* Self-motivated and capable of working independently to deadlines

* Skilled in negotiation and able to form excellent working relationships internally and with external suppliers

* Experience in developing own-brand products

* Strong organisational and time management skills with a positive and pro-active approach

* Proficient in Microsoft Excel

This is a permanent and full-time position offering a salary of £28,000. The role is office based in North Norwich with 1 day working from home.
